Amigos de México Mzt. A.C.

About us

Who We Are

The Mexican civil association Friends of Mexico was formed in 1998 by two expats from Canada and the US. They developed a constitution, bylaws, and applied for non-profit status from the government office. We underwent a structural change in 2016 and our legal name is now Amigos de Mexico, Mzt, A.C. Even so, our members are mostly English speaking and still refer to themselves as Friends of Mexico.

purpose

"Our purpose is to be a community minded organization that supports the education of students in impoverished areas of Mazatlan and seeks to enhance the experience of its members living in Mazatlan".

Our members are from Canada, the US, and Mexico, many of whom are retired. We meet regularly on every second Tuesday during the winter snowbird season from October to May. We often invite someone to speak about local activities and services. Our door is open, and everyone is welcome.

Our board of directors are all volunteers. Whenever possible, we organize and encourage members to get together for social dinners, classes, and trips.

Our membership fee for the last few years is $350 MXN pesos per person. These fees go toward the school support program as well as a small percentage for administration. We have a very successful high school scholarship program which is funded solely by student sponsorships.
