Let's support local community

Help poor children stay in school!

In 1998, Friends of Mexico started as an idea for a club for expats from Canada and the US. The next year, the focus shifted to finding ways to support the local community and help poor children stay in school. Still, whenever the opportunity arises, we provide information and activities to our members.

During our monthly meetings from November to April, local professionals are invited to speak about their businesses and about the services they provide. Topics range from the department of tourist protection (CAPTA), to car care, to a variety of medical services. During those months, we also reserve a table or two at different restaurants for a group of members and we report our findings back to the others.

We have approached many restaurants and businesses in Mazatlan to ask if they will give our members a small discount. We have compiled a list of these businesses and members can sign in and access the information. As of 2021, we have found that many small businesses have failed due to the pandemic and resulting lack of income, so we are in the process of updating the list.

If there is a group of members who like to socialize and explore together, we can arrange classes or trips. A small portion of the total fee for the activity is usually donated to Friends of Mexico. Classes have included art, jewelry making, mosaics, and Spanish. Day trips or overnight trips can be arranged to popular sightseeing sites.

We Would Love to Hear from You
