Scholarship program

Children need your help

When a good student graduates from grade 6, their teacher may recommend them for an Amigos de Mexico scholarship. The teacher verifies that the student is from a financially needy family. The student then submits their application, letter of recommendation, report card, and a contract signed by the parent. If everything is in order, the student is accepted into the scholarship program. In 2023, we have 55 students receiving a scholarship through our program, who are attending both high school and university.

Received a scholarship through our program

The cost of a scholarship is $3000 pesos, or $180 US via PayPal on this site. In August, when we receive the student’s application and their final grades, they receive the first payment of $1500 pesos. The other payment is paid in February upon receipt of the mid-year grades. The student is expected to maintain an average grade of 8.5 or better throughout the year.

The Scholarship Chair will be in touch with sponsors to share information about their students and to answer questions. If you would like to sponsor a student, please click on ‘sponsorship’, fill out the personal data, and pay via Paypal. Or, seek us out when you are visiting Mazatlan!

The neighborhoods within the city, and receiving city services, are called ‘colonias’. When people settle or squat in areas outside the city limits, it is referred to as an ‘invasion’. Some of the children who attend the primary schools we support live in homes like this.
