Educational improvements in Mazatlán primary schools are highlighted thanks to the support of ‘Friends of Mexico.’

The improvement of infrastructure and resources has had a positive impact on the academic performance of students at the Amigos de México Elementary School.

Elements such as good infrastructure, modernization and food services have been an important factor for students at the Amigos de México Elementary School in Mazatlán to achieve improved academic performance.

The conditions of this educational institution have directly influenced the academic performance of its students, complemented by the effort and commitment of its teachers and administrative staff.

“The children have seen the consistency, they have not stopped going, there is less absenteeism. The more resources there are in a school, what will happen? The students will take advantage of it.”

In many educational institutions in Mazatlán, mainly in vulnerable areas, the absence of these basic conditions and tools has limited the comprehensive development of students.

However, in the case of Amigos de México the story is different, because as its director points out, by meeting these needs, better learning is encouraged, motivation increases and school absenteeism decreases.

“Hat Extravaganza”: A Cause-Driven Hat Party in Mazatlan That Made History

“Last Thursday, January 16, 2025, the exclusive residential El Cielo in Cerritos, Mazatlan, became the setting for one of the most anticipated events of the year: the “Hat Extravaganza”, organized by the Friends of Mexico (FOM) A.C. association. This third edition of the charity hat party exceeded all expectations by bringing together more than 200 attendees, mostly foreign residents, who demonstrated their commitment to the well-being of the Mazatlan community.

From 3:30 pm, participants began to arrive wearing hats of all styles, colors and sizes, turning the event into a display of creativity and fun. The atmosphere was full of energy and joy, with live music, snacks and an exquisite selection of drinks that delighted attendees as they toured the beautiful facilities of the venue.

A contest with spectacular hats The highlight of the afternoon was the long-awaited hat contest, which awarded prizes to the first, second and third place. The designs ranged from classic creations to extravagant pieces that looked like works of art. Amid laughter and applause, the winners took not only prizes, but also the recognition and admiration of those present.

An event with heart The main objective of the “Hat Extravaganza” was to raise funds to support the social programs that Friends of Mexico (FOM) leads in the community. The resources obtained will go entirely to initiatives such as the school breakfast program and infrastructure improvements at the “Amigos de México” school, whose name is a tribute to this wonderful association. Thanks to these efforts, dozens of children in Mazatlan receive daily support that improves their quality of life and academic development.

Linda Hannawalt, president of FOM, expressed her gratitude at the close of the event: “This event is not only a show of solidarity, but also a reminder that together, we as a community can achieve great things. We are proud to see so many foreigners, who already call Mazatlan home, join this cause with such enthusiasm.”

An example of community and solidarity The “Hat Extravaganza” was not only an afternoon full of fun and creativity, but also a sample of how the union between cultures can transform lives. Foreign residents have shown, once again, that their affection for Mazatlan goes beyond words, being key actors in initiatives that directly benefit Mazatlan families.
