Welcome to the Friends of México web site.

The March 11, 2017 Scholarship Reunion

We hope you will find it interesting and informative. Our purpose for this web site is to keep you up to date on what is going on at Friends of México and to make your stay in Mazatlán more enjoyable, whether you live here a few months each year or year round. If you are a first time visitor to our web site, please go to Visitor Menu and click on the tab Welcome to our Website. There you will find detailed information about Friends of México and the programs which we support. This home page is designed for our members and gives detailed direction on how to navigate the web site. You will notice in the upper right hand corner a pull down menu which allows you to select the language you wish to read. The normal setting will be ENGLISH however you can open and click on ESPAÑOL and it will convert to Spanish where the translations exist. We will be working on these translations for some time to come so please bear with us as we make this transition.

Our Web site is divided into two major sections. The first is open to the public and the menu tabs in this information area which are public are visible upon accessing the web site on your browser. The second section is for members only and you must be a member in good standing to access these areas. To access them, you need to log in with your User ID and Password. Ongoing Mexican Military Operations in Tepic, Nayarit

Due to the reduction in Mexican military operations in Tepic, Nayarit, and its immediate vicinity, the U.S. Consulate General in Guadalajara has lifted its February 10 prohibition on U.S. Consulate personnel travel to the area.

U.S. citizens who travel to Tepic and its immediate vicinity may still encounter checkpoints staffed by Mexican military or police personnel.  Travelers should comply with all instructions.

Routine Message for U.S. Citizens: Voting in 2017

Just voted in November?  Still traveling or living overseas?  You should register and request your absentee ballot to vote again in 2017 to ensure your election office knows where to send your ballot for any upcoming special elections for federal office.  Some states are also holding gubernatorial or other statewide elections this year.

The Annual Scholarship Reunion will be held on Saturday, March 11, 2017 at La Palapa Del Mar. The reunion will begin at 10:00 am with lunch being served at noon and the program will end at 1:00 pm. If you are interested in being a sponsor of a student, this is a good time to see how the program works. Members are invited to attend. Friends of Mexico will hold its monthly Meeting on Tuesday, March 14, 2017. We will have as our guest speaker Juan Chong, to talk to us about insurance requirements and availability for foreign nationals who visiting or are living in Mexico. Everyone is invited to attend. The meeting will be held at La Palapa Del Mar next to Casa Country on Camarón Sábalo. Breakfast will begin at 9:30 am the meeting begins promptly at 10:00 am.


US Consul General to visit Mazatlan

Consul General Karen Ogle of the U.S. Consulate in Hermosillo will be visiting Mazatlan and extends an invitation to meet her for coffee and to speak informally to members of the American citizen community.  She will be at Rico's Cafe.  Ave. Marina #2216 Petroplazas from noon to 1pm on Thursday, March 16th.
